KIDLINGTON’S clash with table-toppers Bedford Town was abandoned after a half-time ‘altercation’ saw police called over an alleged assault.

The Pitching In Southern League Division 1 Central leaders went 1-0 up moments before the break through Connor Tomlinson.

According to Bedford, there was an ‘altercation’ in the tunnel as both teams returned to the dressing rooms and the hosts ‘refused’ to come out for the second half, with the game abandoned as a result.

Thames Valley Police has since confirmed a man suffered minor injuries in an alleged assault.

Kidlington have been contacted for comment.

Bedford said they are ‘disappointed’ at the decision to abandon the game, adding: “It is still unclear what the facts are, but what is known at this stage is that match officials made the decision to abandon the game at the start of the second half, when the players and management from Kidlington refused to return to the pitch for the second half.

“Bedford Town led the tie 1-0 at half-time, thanks to a 45-minute goal by Connor Tomlinson.

“At the point that both teams left the field, there was an altercation in the tunnel.

“The club’s staff are working with the Football Association and the Southern League to investigate the situation and assist with any decisions regarding the outcome of the match.

“Until that has been concluded, there will be no further comment from the club.”

Thames Valley Police confirmed the assault allegation was reported at 4pm.

The force has not made any arrests, but an investigation is ongoing.
