KARL Robinson was ‘furious’ at the manner of Bolton Wanderers’ winning goal against Oxford United.

The visitors broke upfield after goalkeeper James Trafford caught a U’s corner and Marlon Fossey crossed for Amadou Bakayoko to secure a 3-2 victory in the 86th minute.

It condemned United to back-to-back defeats as they fell two places to seventh in Sky Bet League One, outside the play-off spots.

The U’s had more possession and shots on goal across the 90 minutes and Robinson rued the deciding moment.

United’s head coach said: “I’m furious, because it was from a corner and it wasn’t anything we’ve worked on.

“Our players recover into the wrong positions and we get hit by that ball, it’s a fantastic pass by Gethin Jones and they take the opportunity.

“It was probably the only time they entered our box in the second half. I feel we had most of the game today.”

It was the first time Bolton went ahead in the match, after United twice took the lead in a four-goal first half.

Billy Bodin was on target on both occasions, first curling in a ninth-minute free-kick that was cancelled out by Declan John 60 seconds later.

The forward then found the bottom corner with an equally impressive effort just after the half-hour, only for Fossey to equalise again soon after.

Bodin went off with a tight calf after the break, although Robinson was confident United caught it early enough to prevent it becoming a problem.

The U’s looked capable of taking the points in front of their third successive five-figure home crowd, only to concede late on as they shipped two goals or more for the seventh time in eight games.

Robinson added: “I don’t think any of our players played poorly, I thought it was a very good team performance.

“It’s a fantastic turnout by the fans, we’re frustrated we never got the result.

“The roller coaster of the Football League season continues – we need to dust ourselves off and learn from today.

“We can’t keep conceding the goals that we’re conceding but they’re not one type of goal.

“The second is with his weak foot and has gone into the top corner, the first one has gone through Longy’s legs and we probably should’ve done better.”
