EDDIE Pepperell gave himself too much to do as he missed the cut at his first tournament of 2022.

The Abingdon golfer carded a four-over par opening round at the Ras al Khaimah Championship in the UAE, before a much-improved three-under on day two.

But Pepperell was well short of making the cut, missing out by four shots.

Starting from the tenth on day one, the Frilford Heath member got off to a poor start with a bogey.

More dropped shots followed at the 15th and 16th, before a birdie at the par-four first improved matters.

The 31-year-old could not revive his fortunes, though, and bogeys at the fifth and eighth saw him card a four-over 76.

Pepperell needed a drastic improvement on day two and got off to a much better start, picking up shots at the third and fourth.

But bogeys at the eighth and tenth ultimately ended his chances, although a string of birdies at the 11th, 13th and 14th meant he ended his round under-par.

The two-time European Tour winner tied for 96th in his first tournament back and he has now missed the cut at five of his last six events.
