KARL Robinson is confident Matty Taylor and Mark Sykes will be available against Portsmouth after the pair played through sickness at Wigan Athletic.

The Oxford United No 9 scored in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium, but it emerged after the game that he had been vomiting that morning.

Meanwhile, Sykes – who claimed the assist against Wigan - was struggling with a tooth issue and had root canal treatment first thing yesterday.

Karl Robinson: Oxford United have option to extend Elliott Moore's contract

Robinson revealed Taylor was still feeling the effects of the bug after the game but is not expecting the U’s top-scorer to miss Saturday’s Sky Bet League One visit of Pompey.

“Sykesy had root canal treatment at 8am on Wednesday, he had to go to an emergency dentist,” United’s head coach said.

“Matty was still struggling on Wednesday with an illness.

“He was on the coach on the way back and said he felt like the bus had run over him.

“He was in a bad way on Tuesday and played the game and scored, so I couldn’t imagine him to be any worse on Friday. I have no concerns.

"The reason I spoke about Sykesy and Matty (after the game) is when one assists and one scores, you chuckle to yourself and think ‘at one stage they weren’t playing’."
