THE Oxford Mail player ratings for Oxford United’s 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One.

JACK STEVENS

Got away with it in first-half stoppage-time when he flapped at a cross and Whatmough headed against the post. Made a crucial late save from the centre back and generally did well under crosses and set-pieces – 7

Jack Stevens: We put our bodies on the line

SAM LONG

Helped United start on top with some marauding runs down the right, but was less able to get forward as the game went on. Won late headers to earn a gritty point – 6.5

ELLIOTT MOORE

A very assured display against one of the best forward lines in League One. Kept Humphrys quiet and made a couple of crucial blocks. Only downside was a needless first-half booking that could have cost him later. BOOKED, MAN OF THE MATCH – 8.5

LUKE MCNALLY

Passed another big test. You expected him to win a lot of headers, but there were also some brilliantly-timed tackles to stop Wigan in their tracks. Played a little on the edge compared to Moore, though. BOOKED – 8

STEVE SEDDON

Lapse of concentration allowed Lang in for Wigan’s equaliser. He had a good battle with the goalscorer and made some important tackles, even if he was left a little exposed at times – 6.5

HERBIE KANE

Looked a little rusty, but it was a tough game to come back for. He continued to show for the ball and when he was at his most influential United were at their best. BOOKED – 7

MARCUS MCGUANE

Showed some lovely touches in the first half, although he got frustrated as decisions went against him. Seemed to tire after the break as Wigan took control – 6.5

BILLY BODIN

Disappointing to see him back on the right after some sparkling performances in the central role, even if it was in a narrower position. Another who had moments of quality, just unfortunate he had to spend a lot of time tracking McClean – 6.5

CAMERON BRANNAGAN

Combined with Sykes to stunning effect for the goal, but was less influential than usual. Stood up to the fight when the game became a bit scrappy, although had to be careful to avoid more than a yellow card. BOOKED – 7

MARK SYKES

See above for the opener, his bravery at the start of the move and composure at the end were pure class. His energy remains a real asset at the end of games and he dug in – 7.5

MATTY TAYLOR

His finish was harder than it looked as he struck the ball at an awkward angle. Did not get much of a look-in against two good centre backs but gave them something to think about – 7.5
