KARL Robinson gave nothing away when asked if Oxford United are set to sign Marcus Browne.

Reports this morning suggested the U’s have agreed a permanent deal for the Middlesbrough forward after his move to Charlton Athletic broke down.

Robinson is a big fan of Browne, who spent a total of a season and a half on loan at United across the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaigns.

The U’s were certainly interested in the 24-year-old but appeared to have lost out to Charlton, only for the Addicks to back out of a permanent move this week.

Asked about the reports, United head coach Robinson said: “That’s nothing to do with me.

“I don’t know whether he didn’t go or they turned him down, it’s always nice as a football club when you can say you’ve turned a player down.

“I’ve used that one before as well.

“We’ve not spoken about any player, so I’m not going to start just yet.”

Robinson travelled down to Gillingham this morning for today’s Sky Bet League One clash as he aims to tie up United’s first signing of the January transfer window.

He said: “We’re getting closer to one or two things that we want to get done. We’ve worked extremely hard.

“There’s so many unanswered questions that have to be answered.

“A lot of things have to fall in line still.”
