MARCUS Browne is set to re-join Oxford United after his proposed move to Charlton Athletic collapsed, according to reports.

Football Insider says the two-time loanee has agreed a permanent deal to join the U’s from Middlesbrough.

It comes after the forward, 24, appeared to be on his way to Sky Bet League One counterparts Charlton having been given the green light to leave the Riverside Stadium.

The U’s were interested in re-signing Browne long before reports emerged a fortnight ago that they had ‘joined the race’ for the attacker.

They still harboured hopes of a move late last week, only for Charlton to come in with what was understood to be a very competitive offer.

The Addicks were in pole position to recruit Browne on a permanent deal, but the South London Press revealed yesterday that the club backed out of a move.

The former West Ham United trainee now looks to be on his way to United, where he spent a season and a half on loan across the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaigns.

A permanent move makes more sense, as Browne has not played in more than a year following an ACL injury last January.

Meanwhile, Football Insider also claims United are one of five English Football League clubs interested in Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

The U’s are reportedly in a race with Sky Bet Championship sides Cardiff City and Reading, plus League One outfits MK Dons and Accrington Stanley.

It comes after Scottish giants Rangers pulled out of a loan move for the 19-year-old winger.

Rak-Sakyi made his Palace debut against Chelsea on the opening day of the Premier League season and has scored twice in four games for England Under 20s.

The young forward has impressed for the Eagles’ Under 23s in Premier League 2 this term, finding the net 11 times in 16 matches.
