BANBURY Bulls youth product Alfie Barbeary has been named in England’s Six Nations squad.

The 21-year-old will be part of Eddie Jones’ 36-man group for a training camp ahead of the tournament, which kicks-off on the first weekend of February.

Barbeary is one of six new faces in the England squad, which meets in Brighton next Monday for a five-day camp before heading up to Scotland for their Six Nations opener at Murrayfield on February 5.

He is yet to win a senior cap for his country, although his first call-up came for the Autumn Nations Cup final against France back in November 2020.

The back row forward, who grew up in Deddington and joined Banbury aged eight, had been tipped for a place in the squad after man-of-the-match displays for Wasps against Leicester Tigers and Toulouse in the last nine days.

Barbeary scored his first try on debut against Gloucester back in October 2018, but truly broke on to the scene in 2020.

The former Bloxham School pupil crossed in a 32-17 win over Worcester Warriors in August, before helping himself to a hat-trick against Leicester the following month.

Then playing as a hooker, his performances earned him his first England call-up later that year.

An ankle injury in December 2020 disrupted his season and he returned last March.

Barbeary has since moved to the back row and played seven times for Wasps this season, scoring four tries.
