FORMER Oxford United right back Paul Hinshelwood has died, aged 65.
The defender was a key part of the U’s side that won the old Division Three under Jim Smith in 1983/84.
Hinshelwood played 64 games for United, scoring one goal.
He previously graduated from Crystal Palace’s youth set-up and went on to become a club legend.
The full-back played 319 times for the Eagles, helping them to the Division Two title in 1978/79, before moving to the Manor Ground in summer 1983.
He stayed for a season and a half, joining Millwall in January 1985 – winning promotion from Division Three a few months later.
U’s legend John Aldridge joined the club shortly after Hinshelwood and paid tribute to his former teammate.
He wrote on Twitter: “Gutted to hear Paul Hinshelwood has passed away at such a young age.
“He was a big part of the Oxford United revolution in the 80s and a great bloke. RIP pal, condolences to all his family. YNWA.”
