OXFORD United have been linked with former transfer target Stuart Findlay.

The U’s are one of several English Football League clubs rumoured to be interested in the Scotland international, according to a report by Football Insider.

United pulled out of a move for Findlay during the summer 2019 transfer window, when Kilmarnock’s asking price proved too high.

The 26-year-old moved to MLS side Philadelphia Union last February, but has struggled for game-time in America.

Football Insider claims nine clubs are interested in the defender, including United's Sky Bet League One rivals Portsmouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle.

Findlay came through Celtic’s academy but never made a senior appearance, before signing for Newcastle United in summer 2016.

He played one game for the North East giants and joined Kilmarnock on loan 12 months later, with the move becoming permanent in 2018.

Findlay’s form made him a target for United in 2019, although their interest cooled when a reported fee in the region of £500,000 was raised even higher.

U’s head coach Karl Robinson said at the time: “We were willing to put a very substantial bid in, but we hear it’s gone above and beyond that.”

United signed Elliott Moore a fortnight later and the 24-year-old is one of four senior centre backs currently at the club, alongside loanee Jordan Thorniley, club captain John Mousinho and Luke McNally.
