RICHIE Wellens has been sacked as Doncaster Rovers boss.
Oxford United take on the Yorkshire side, who are 23rd in Sky Bet League One, on Tuesday.
A Rovers statement read: “The club’s board have taken the decision that a change is required at this time in order for a permanent appointment to be made in time for the opening of the January transfer window.”
U18s manager Gary McSheffrey will take charge of Doncaster for their Emirates FA Cup tie at home to Mansfield Town.
Wellens’ managerial career has also seen him in the hot seat at Oldham Athletic, Swindon Town and Salford City.
He had a nomadic playing career which included Oldham, Doncaster and Salford, in addition to spells at Blackpool and Leicester City.
