OXFORD United will start next season early due to the Qatar World Cup.

The English Football League (EFL) has confirmed the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two campaigns will get under way on the weekend of Saturday, July 30.

Domestic competitions have had to adjust their 2022/23 calendars because of the winter World Cup, which runs for five weeks in November and December next year.

Leagues One and Two will continue as normal during the tournament, but if United gain promotion to the Championship they will have a four-week pause next season.

Matches on Saturday, November 12, 2022 will be the final round of Championship fixtures before the tournament starts two days later.

Fixtures will resume on December 10, once the World Cup group stages are over.

All games will be subject to existing international postponement criteria, which allows clubs to reschedule matches if they have three or more call-ups.

All other dates are similar to the normal calendar, with the Carabao Cup starting in the week commencing August 8 and the Papa John’s Trophy later that month.

The final day of the regular EFL season is scheduled for May 6, 2023, with the play-off finals taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May.
