EDDIE Pepperell fell away after a promising start as he missed the cut at the AVIV Dubai Championship.

The Abingdon golfer was four-under par after seven holes at Jumeirah Golf Estates, but could not maintain his form.

He carded one-over on the opening day, meaning a one-under second round was not enough to progress beyond the midway point of the tournament.

Pepperell, who tied for 98th, has missed the cut at four of his last five events.

Four early birdies set the Frilford Heath member up for a good weekend, but his work was undone at the next seven holes.

Six dropped shots, including a double bogey at the par-three 14th, meant a birdie at the 18th was only a small consolation.

Starting his second round from the tenth, Pepperell had an equally inconsistent day.

Birdies at the 14th, 16th and 18th were punctuated by bogeys at the 12th and 17th, although the 30-year-old picked up a shot at the first to raise hopes of a late charge.

That was scuppered by a double bogey at the fourth, before a birdie at the next hole at least meant Pepperell was under-par for the day.

He remains in Dubai this week for the DP World Tour Championship.
