KARL Robinson says Oxford United will be sitting down with Alex Gorrin to discuss his contract after the midfielder was ruled out of action with a serious injury.

Yesterday, the club confirmed Gorrin had torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the Emirates FA Cup clash against Bristol Rovers.

The injury will almost certainly rule the Spaniard out for a substantial chunk of the season, at the end of which his U’s contract will expire.

Robinson said: “To lose him for the foreseeable future, we all know how long them injuries can take and it’s a massive blow, not only for us but to him as well.

“We will be sitting down, his contract’s up in the summer and we’ll have a look at that, to give him something to fight for and look forward to.

“It’s a big loss, we tried to get it right in the Sheffield Wednesday game and away in big games, by putting him in alongside Herbie, or with Cameron.

“He is our holding destroyer so it’s a big loss but it’s a part of the football league season, you have to cope with all these things that go for you and against you.”
