OXFORD United showed they could find a different way to win against Morecambe, says Steve Seddon.

The left back’s first-half opener was cancelled out by Cole Stockton’s volley after the break, but Mark Sykes and Matty Taylor scored late on to secure a fourth straight victory for the home side.

United did not hit the heights of the previous weekend’s win at Burton Albion, but Seddon knows it is important to be able to grind out results too.

The verdict: Oxford United had to deliver on important day for club

“The boys are resilient, they trust everyone in the team to do their jobs and come back and win the game,” the 23-year-old said.

“Sometimes it’s not as fluent as you want it to be, but not every game of football can be.

“It’s about finding a way.

“At the minute we’re doing well to find a way to score goals and win games.”

United go into a two-week break from Sky Bet League One action sixth in the table and Seddon played a major part.

After heading home the opening goal – the club’s first from a set-piece this season – he provided the cross that ended with Sykes putting the U’s back in front.

Seddon’s delightful backheel played in Taylor for United’s third and the summer signing joked that it made up for the miscued clearance that led to his side conceding at Burton.

“I think that’s the first goal with my head,” he said.

“The right foot cost us a goal last week, so luckily it’s got us a goal this week.

“I was buzzing to give Tayls the assist, it was a great finish from him.”

Seddon added: “I enjoy going forward and with intelligent players around you they can cover and let you go forward, which is great for me.

“The way that we play, the burden of goals isn’t on one person or position.

“We play with a lot of rotation, so it’s good to see other players score.”
