KARL Robinson’s new view of training showed him a side to some Oxford United players he had never seen before.

The U’s head coach has finished his ten-day isolation period after testing positive for coronavirus and took his first session back yesterday.

Robinson watched footage of training while he was away, some of it recorded by a drone hovering above Oxford Sports Park.

And the different angle revealed a characteristic that was not previously apparent.

Robinson said: “What I’ve noticed from being away is body language.

“When you’re in the midst of something, noise can affect how you see somebody.

“You see arms going up in the air, but you know they’re a good person and they’re fine.

“There’s a few players I want to speak to about how their body language might be perceived as arrogant, maybe lazy or not caring, but I know them as people.

“You see things a little bit differently.”

Assistant manager Craig Short and club captain John Mousinho took charge in Robinson’s absence and guided United to three wins out of three.

The U’s skipper has spent the last two seasons gaining experience on the touchline and his manager believes the last week will benefit his coaching career.

Robinson said: “I think it’s great for the likes of John Mousinho.

“Everyone knows I want him to be a manager one day, he’s on that flight path.

“Giving him that responsibility over this period of time will do him the world of good.

“Everyone’s got a lift from that.”

Robinson will be back on the touchline for tomorrow’s visit of Morecambe, after missing the wins over Shrewsbury Town and Burton Albion.

A dozen players who were part of the squad at the Pirelli Stadium were not involved for Tuesday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur Under 21s in the Papa John’s Trophy.

They will return tomorrow, but Robinson revealed the night off did not mean an easier schedule.

He said: “For us to have those players not even in the squad just shows the strength in depth.

“The other players got a really good training week in, so they’re ready and raring to go for the weekend.

“There’s no excuses physically, we should be 100 per cent at this.”
