KARL Robinson says it has been an ‘important’ week off the pitch for Oxford United.

Tuesday’s 5-1 victory over Accrington Stanley was watched by directors Anindya Bakrie and Horst Geicke, who are among those set to take a leading role in the boardroom.

The deal that would see the Indonesian-led group secure the majority stake at United is currently awaiting English Football League approval.

Bakrie addressed staff before the match and Robinson revealed there has been a buzz in recent days.

The U’s head coach said: “You’ve seen the excitement with Horst, Anin, everybody’s advisers and the development people being here.

“It was a really important time for the football club, the last four days have been quite busy away from here.

“It was really inspirational listening to Anin on Tuesday.

“The humility that he carries and the amount of work he does for local charities and young people is quite remarkable.

“Tiger is exactly the same, they really care for people.

“There’s a warmth that’s really engaging and I’ve got a great relationship with all of them.

“They appreciate where the club is today and where it’s been, but we also get excited about where we know we can take it. The club’s in great hands.”

Geicke has attended several games this season, but Bakrie had been unable to watch live until Tuesday.

Their in-person involvement over the last 18 months has been limited by the coronavirus pandemic, but Robinson insists they are no less invested.

“They listen to the games and send me pictures from some amazing places in the world watching Oxford United,” he said.

“I think it’s important for them to be here, but I think everyone knows how close they are even when they’re not here.

“That’s a big role that we play when we are in the United Kingdom, that we can relay to them what’s going on.

“We have phone calls, conference calls, and it’s important that when I speak to you people know that’s the case.”
