A DISASTROUS final hole means Eddie Pepperell has plenty of work to do on day two of the BMW PGA Championship.

The Abingdon golfer took eight shots at the par-five 18th to card a six-over par 78 for his opening round at Wentworth.

Pepperell will need a big improvement tomorrow to make the cut at a tournament where he finished sixth last year.

The Frilford Heath member started with a birdie at the par-three second, but his day quickly went downhill.

Pepperell added four bogeys before the turn and dropped two shots at the 11th to slip back through the field.

He birdied the 12th and 13th, before his triple-bogey at the last.

Pepperell tees off at the later time of 1.25pm tomorrow, alongside Europe's 2018 Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn and English counterpart Tom Lewis.
