KARL Robinson says Oxford United’s transfer deadline day business is over.

The U’s signed 20-year-old Ben Davis from Fulham this morning, having added Herbie Kane on loan from Barnsley yesterday.

But the big fear was whether United would lose Cameron Brannagan, who was the subject of a bid from Blackpool worth more than £500,000.

Rumours regarding the midfielder’s future have been flying around all day, but Robinson is adamant Brannagan is staying put.

“By Sunday night we knew he was going to be an Oxford United player,” the U's head coach said.

“We did turn down a significant bid. We’ve had a few turned down for some of our players, but only one got out there.

“We discussed it, we gave them an opportunity to make a bid but they didn’t make the deadline.

“That wouldn’t be fair to the agent, the player and the club. Everyone completely understood the situation."

Robinson added: “He’s excited about carrying on here – you saw his celebration against Charlton.

“That’s not a player that wants to walk away from Oxford United.

“If it’s the right thing for his career and the fee was correct, every player at this football club’s for sale. But it’s on our terms.”

Robinson has spoken for some time about wanting left back cover for Steve Seddon, but feels United have enough bodies to cope.

He said: “We have to get one out to get one in because of the numbers in the squad.

“We know Jamie Hanson’s only three weeks away (from returning) and he can play there.

“We also know Sam Long plays very well there, Jordan Thorniley has played seven or eight games there in the Championship.

“You do have cover in that position with Michael Elechi.

“I think it’s the right decision – why waste money?

“The owners were very clear in that we can do that (bring someone in) if we want to.

“But trying to tell a player that they’ve got to wait for their chance is difficult when you’re trying to recruit one who’s good enough to jump into Sedds’s shoes if he goes down injured.

“There’s so many different thought processes – this conversation has gone on for two months and we’re really happy with that situation.”

The U’s head coach was also asked whether any players would be going out on loan and revealed ‘five or six managers’ had enquired about Dan Agyei, whose contract expires next summer.

But Robinson did not just issue a vote of confidence in the forward, but even went as far as to say a new deal was on the table.

He said: “I wanted Dan to stay in the building.

“There’s something about Dan that I really believe in, I hope he signs a contract because I want him here for a while.”
