HARVEY Bradbury scored twice as Oxford City hit Bath City for five on Bank Holiday Monday.

Josh Ashby, Dan Matsuzaka and Lewis Coyle also found the net as the Hoops secured a 5-1 win at Court Place Farm.

The result was City’s first win of the season, after starting with three successive draws, the first time that had happened in 109 seasons.

David Oldfield made three changes from the 2-2 draw with Eastbourne Borough, as Bradbury, Jack Davies and Jacob Bancroft came in for Elliot Benyon, Charlie Rowan and Joe Iaciofano.

The first chance of the game fell City’s way after 10 minutes.

Alfie Potter’s mazy run opened up the angle to shoot but his strike was sent inches over the top of the crossbar.

The visitors then broke the deadlock just before the half hour mark when Elliott Frear tucked home Tom Smith’s cross.

City levelled matters five minutes later when Bradbury grabbed his first.

A free kick from Ashby cannoned around the six-yard box before the ball fell to Bradbury, who tapped in from two yards out.

City added a second just before half time when Ashby hit a cross-shot from the right wing which evaded the Bath defence and nestled into the back of the net, via the post.

The Hoops ensured they had a two-goal cushion when Matsuzaka scored 11 minutes into the second half.

Bradbury headed the ball back across the goal and Matsuzaka tapped the ball in from close range.

Just sixty seconds later, Canice Carroll fired a shot just wide of the post.

The game was Bradbury’s first start of the season and he did not waste the opportunity.

On 60 minutes, Ashby chased a loose ball, which he clipped over Ryan Clarke in the Bath goal, leaving Bradbury with a diving header to make it 4-1.

Seven minutes later, the challenge for Bath got even greater when former City defender Eddie Jones was given a second yellow card for a challenge on George Harmon.

Bradbury almost grabbed a hat-trick with seven minutes to go but his chipped effort floated just wide.

Coyle, on as a first half substitute for the injured Potter, rounded the afternoon off with the fifth goal in the 88th minute.

The forward picked up the ball outside the box and weaved his way through the defence before smashing the ball past Clarke.

The win, in front of a crowd of 731, lifted City up to sixth in the Vanarama National League South.

Next up for Oldfield’s side is another home game, against Maidstone United on Saturday.

Banbury United remain in second place in the Southern League Premier Division Central after a 1-0 win at Stratford Town.

Jack Westbrook scored a header from a corner on 62 minutes.

The win follows the 3-1 victory at home to Hitchin Town at the weekend and means the Puritans remain unbeaten after five league games.

In the Southern League Division One Central, Kidlington drew 1-1 at home to North Leigh, with the visitors dropping their first points of the season.

Callum McNish put North Leigh in front on 69 minutes, but Ryan Holmes equalised with 89 minutes on the clock.

Didcot Town leapfrogged North Leigh into second with a 1-0 win at home to Wantage Town, courtesy of Connor Ferguson’s goal.

Thame United lost 3-1 at home to Aylesbury United.
