KARL Robinson says Oxford United are prepared to act fast if needed in the final few days of the transfer window.

Clubs have until 11pm on Tuesday to complete their business, with the run up to deadline day traditionally signalling a flurry of signings up and down the country.

The U’s are still keen to bring in a left back as cover for Steve Seddon, while no outgoings are believed to be imminent.

But Robinson knows this can change quickly as clubs seek to fill holes in their squad and said United have ‘a few irons in the fire’.

The U’s head coach added: “It’s a case of whether anyone leaves here.

“That’s always open to people coming in for our players.

“I don’t want to scare people, but don’t think we’re not preparing for so many different eventualities.

“If people don’t get the players they want, suddenly our players become a little bit more exciting than they were.

“That’s always open to other people doing business, or maybe players wanting to leave because they’re not getting game-time.

“If you’re asking me as a manager, we’re happy with what we’ve got.”

United signed Nathan Holland, Gavin Whyte and Jordan Thorniley in the space of 72 hours before the Sky Bet League One season started, but there have been no additions or departures since the latter joined on August 1.

The U’s rebuffed Aston Villa’s interest in goalkeeper Jack Stevens last month, with Robinson suggesting the club had rejected approaches for other players too.

United also turned down a bid of more than £500,000 for midfielder Cameron Brannagan from a Sky Bet Championship club, believed to be Millwall, towards the end of the January transfer window.

United were busy that deadline day, bringing in Joe Grayson as left-sided cover after losing Jordan Obita to Wycombe Wanderers 72 hours earlier.

Elliot Lee and Brandon Barker also arrived on loan, while Derick Osei went to Walsall until the end of the season.

The U’s have made seven signings in this window, with Marcus McGuane, Ryan Williams, Billy Bodin and Seddon joining before Holland, Whyte and Thorniley.

Josh Ruffels, Rob Atkinson, Sean Clare and Kyran Lofthouse have left permanently this summer, alongside last season’s loanees and players who were released.
