JAMES Henry knows every member of Oxford United’s squad will be required in a demanding Football League campaign.

The U’s travel to Bolton Wanderers in Sky Bet League One today (3pm), looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

United have so far adapted to losing Sam Long, Elliott Moore and Anthony Forde in the campaign’s early days, although there may be changes in forward positions after Nathan Holland, Ryan Williams and Billy Bodin were forced off against Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.

This could present an opportunity to players on the fringes and Henry says they must take advantage.

The midfielder added: “Every player will tell you they want to play every game, but throughout a 46-game season that’s not always possible.

“Everyone needs to be ready to take their chance and be prepared to come off the bench and win games.

“Dan (Agyei)’s done that quite a few times, so it’s important for everyone to be on the same page."

Elliott Moore: This is the strongest Oxford United squad I've been involved in

Agyei is one of those players who has had to be patient, despite producing several lively displays off the bench towards the end of 2020/21.

He was an unused substitute in the first two matches of this season, before coming on for Holland early in the Crewe fixture.

The 24-year-old was not the only one to make an impact as a replacement last year, with Sam Winnall scoring three times off the bench in United’s final seven games.

Robinson regularly rotates his front three and the striker was preferred to Matty Taylor against Charlton Athletic last Saturday.

The U’s head coach believes this will help his side finish the campaign strongly, despite this one already taking its toll.

Robinson: “You look at our record at the back end of the season, it’s because we tend to keep players fresh at the beginning.

“You’re relying on a little bit of luck in relation to the contact injuries and that’s where we’ve been unlucky.

“The players are full of energy, they’re excited about the challenge of performing against a very difficult Bolton team that will be just as fatigued as ourselves.

“They’ve been down to London to AFC Wimbledon and then to Lincoln on Tuesday, so they’ve done an awful lot of travelling as well.”
