KARL Robinson said his Oxford United side dominated their 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic.

First half goals from Ryan Williams and Cameron Brannagan saw the U’s race into a 2-0 lead in front of a crowd of 8,440 at the Kassam Stadium.

The game was the first at the Kassam whereby supporter numbers were unrestricted.

Before the game, Robinson highlighted Charlton’s physicality but he said his team dealt with that particular problem well.

He said: “We dominated most parts and I thought we passed it well, we created chance after chance after chance.

“For us not to have Sam Long, Fordey, Jamie Hanson – that’s our three right backs out.

“We were always going to be susceptible to a lack of height.

“In all aspects of the game, we were brilliant and it’s a fantastic win.

“I’m so proud of my players and the football club.”

Robinson was less impressed with the awarding of a penalty against Sam Winnall for a handball, with Connor Washington tucking away the spot kick.

“It baffles me – he didn’t even give it, and then there was one on Jordan [Thorniley] when he got his shirt pulled and it’s a penalty,” said Robinson.

“I’d much rather get booked and in trouble for caring for my football club, but that was an embarrassing decision and gave them a bit of a lifeline.

“We’ve conceded two goals in the league so far and they’ve both been penalties.”

Robinson was more pleased on seeing Brannagan on the scoresheet, with the midfielder playing higher up the pitch as Alex Gorrin sat in the deeper midfield role.

“I coached him when he was six and to know what he went through last year with nearly losing his eyesight, it was hard for every one of us,” said Robinson.

“We found it emotionally difficult to deal with.

“To see him back and fighting fit, and scoring goals puts a smile on my face.”

Robinson also confirmed Anthony Forde stiffened his hamstring in the warm up, and would go for a scan tomorrow.
