OXFORD United Women will aim to carry their pre-season form into today’s clash with Gillingham.
Liam Gilbert’s side are at Court Place Farm for their first game in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier (2pm), having won their final three friendlies.
It is a reverse of last season’s opening day fixture, when Carly Johns scored the only goal to give the U’s victory in Kent.
Gilbert has strengthened his squad with seven new signings and United’s manager has seen some good signs over the summer.
He said: “We want to push ourselves as high up as we can.
“It’s the trend we have set and it’s something I expect us to carry on.
“I have been really happy.
“We have brought in quite a few new players and they’ve bought into what we want to do.”
United were second in the table with a game in hand when last season was curtailed in March.
They had not played since December, due to the third national lockdown earlier this year.
