KARL Robinson says Oxford United are not done yet in the transfer market.

The U’s signed Nathan Holland, Gavin Whyte and Jordan Thorniley on season-long loans last week to take their number of new recruits this summer to seven.

United have plenty of depth in attacking positions but are lighter in defence, with Steve Seddon their only recognised senior left back.

And Robinson suggested that was an area they may still look to strengthen.

The U’s head coach said: “We’ve still got one or two things (to do).

“We might even look at another defender, maybe a left back.

“We could have dragged Nathan, Gavin and Jord out until next week, but all the work we did was so we could come in on Monday morning and say ‘right, we’re ready’.”

Transfer tracker: All the League One moves in the summer transfer window

United start the Sky Bet League One season at Cambridge United on Saturday, but the transfer window remains open until 11pm on Tuesday, August 31.

They no longer have to work within the controversial salary cap, set at £2.5million for third-tier clubs, after the measure was scrapped in February.

But the U’s must follow the Salary Cost Management Protocol, which allows them to spend up to 60 per cent of turnover on player-related expenditure, excluding those aged under 21.

Squad caps are still in place but have been altered to limit clubs to a maximum of 22, excluding goalkeepers and players aged under 21.

United are at that number, although they can leave people out of their registered League One squad – like they did with Derick Osei last season.

The U’s have needed to replace Rob Atkinson and Josh Ruffels this summer, while Sean Clare joined Charlton Athletic last month.

But Robinson hopes the fact that Marcus McGuane, Ryan Williams, Holland and Whyte –four of United’s seven signings – have played for the club before ensures the squad needs less time to gel.

He said: “We lose three or four players year-in, year-out and bringing in players who have been here before helps that integration.

“That’s a tremendous step in the right direction.”
