GOALS from new signings Jacob Bancroft and Joe Iaciofano sealed a 2-0 win as Oxford City got pre-season underway.

The Hoops’ lineup for the trip to Thame United included five trialists and a start for the returning Bancroft, back following a stint with Stevenage FC in Sky Bet League Two.

The first chance of the game fell to Zac McEachran on eight minutes, when the midfielder’s curling attempt from the edge of the box hit the post.

Three minutes later, City did take the lead following a corner.

The ball was only half cleared, with Bancroft played through on goal, and coolly slotted past goalkeeper Craig Hill from 12 yards.

McEachran then went close after cutting in from the left, with his shot pushed wide by Hill.

Bancroft had a chance to add a second before half-time, however he saw a shot blocked by a sliding defender in the six-yard box.

A host of changes were made at half-time by David Oldfield, with Iaciofano and two further trialists among those introduced.

Former Havant &Waterlooville striker Iaciofano was immediately involved, seeing a drilled shot go just wide on 57 minutes.

He did however make it 2-0 on 66 minutes, collecting Nana Owusu’s pass before firing into the bottom corner from just inside the box.

Owusu almost made it 3-0 but his free kick went narrowly over the bar on 73 minutes.
