OXFORD United will travel to Bristol Rovers in their final pre-season friendly.

The U’s visit The Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 31 (1pm), for a game that will be open to home fans only.

It comes 12 days after coronavirus restrictions are due to be lifted so will serve as a test event for Rovers, with both clubs discussing the possibility of streaming the match.

Joey Barton's side finished bottom of Sky Bet League One last season, bringing to an end five years in the third tier.

United took maximum points from their two meetings, with Matty Taylor netting twice against his former club in a 2-0 victory on January 23.

Karl Robinson’s side won the reverse fixture by the same score line 17 days later, when loanees Elliot Lee and Brandon Barker got off the mark for the U’s.

Their meeting next month is the third friendly announced by United.

They visit Oxford City on Friday, July 16, when a limited number of fans will be allowed at Court Place Farm.

United also face Peterborough United in a behind-closed-doors ‘double-header’ at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday, July 27.

The first game against last season’s League One runners-up will kick-off at 5.45pm, with the next at 8pm.

Two more behind-closed-doors friendlies are due to be announced before the U's begin their League One campaign at Cambridge United on August 7.
