CHINNOR’S new women’s team enjoyed a memorable night at Kingsey Road, scoring seven tries on their debut.

The Kites – playing their first match since they were formed 10 months ago – turned on the style in a 39-5 victory over Oxfordshire Barbarians on Friday.

In a match played across four quarters, Chinnor were dominant from the start and centre Louise Aaron celebrated her birthday with a hat-trick of tries inside the opening 24 minutes – Sadie Mansell converting the first – for a 19-0 lead.

There was still time for the Kites to add to their advantage before the end of the second period and Emma O’Hara crossed twice to make it 29-0.

Barbarians’ first entry into the opposition’s 22 came in the 38th minute and they made their territory count with an unconverted try just before the break.

Chinnor continued in the same vein in the third period, and Dominique Nielsen went over on 47 minutes following a number of pick and goes.

Liath Campbell then chased after Mansell’s superbly weighted cross-field kick to dive over in the corner for a superb seventh try.

The teams were mixed up for the final 20 minutes as the 400-strong crowd at Kingsey Road enjoyed a first taste of women’s rugby at Chinnor in more than a decade.
