JOSH Ashby has agreed a new contract at Oxford City as next season’s squad begins to take shape.

The former Oxford United midfielder is the second player to sign on this week, after Reece Fleet also committed to the club for the coming campaign.

Lewis Coyle, Harvey Bradbury and Dan Matsuzaka have already agreed to stay at Court Place Farm for 2021/22.

Ashby’s new contract keeps him at City for a fourth successive campaign, having made his 2017 loan move from United permanent 12 months later.

The dead-ball specialist was voted the club’s player of the season in 2019/20.

Fleet has committed to a seventh successive campaign at City and remains their longest-serving player, with more than 250 appearances to his name.

He featured in the Emirates FA Cup shocks against Colchester United in 2017/18 and Northampton Town last November, Ashby scoring the winning goal in the latter.

Both midfielders were virtual ever-presents in David Oldfield’s side as they reached the FA Cup second round and the first Buildbase FA Trophy quarter-final in the club’s history last season.

City were fourth in Vanarama National League South when the campaign was cut short in February following funding concerns.
