KARL Robinson says Oxford United must focus on themselves before worrying about the scores elsewhere today.
The U’s are one point behind sixth-placed Portsmouth going into the final day of the season, so they need the south coast side to slip up against Accrington Stanley to have a chance of reaching the Sky Bet League One play-offs.
While the result at Fratton Park is important, United also have to stay above Charlton Athletic, who only trail them on goal difference.
But Robinson knows the U’s position in the table means they cannot get caught up in events elsewhere.
He said: “If we’re comfortable and the results are positive, I think the players will want to know.
“All of the ifs, buts and maybes become of no importance whatsoever if you don’t get the result you want.
“You have to win first and foremost, and then worry about other things after that.”
Striker Matty Taylor added: “In these situations you tend to know the scores due to the crowd and obviously they won’t be there.
“I’m sure if we need a goal or we need to hold we’ll get the message in the latter stages of the game."
