EDDIE Pepperell continued an inconsistent 2021 as a disappointing second round saw him miss the cut by one stroke in Spain.

The Abingdon golfer carded a one-over par 71 on day two at the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open, with three dropped shots on the 13th and 14th holes proving decisive.

It left him four-under for the tournament as he failed to progress beyond the halfway stage for the third time in four events.

Starting from the first alongside Spanish pair Alvaro Quiros and Eduard Rousaud, the Frilford Heath member picked up where he left off on the opening day.

Three successive birdies from the third hole onwards put him eight-under for the tournament, but then it started to unravel.

The 30-year-old dropped shots at the sixth and the ninth, before it got worse on the back nine.

A double-bogey seven at the 13th was followed by a bogey at the par-four 14th, leaving him three-under for the event and two-over for his round.

Pepperell birdied the 18th, but he fell agonisingly short.

He remains in Spain for the Tenerife Open, which starts on Thursday.
