KARL Robinson was scathing about the way Oxford United dealt with set-pieces at both ends of the pitch against Blackpool.

The visitors won 2-0 at the Kassam Stadium, with goals from Kenny Dougall and Dan Ballard both coming from first-half corners.

It gave the U's a mountain to climb and they could not recover, leaving them 11th in Sky Bet League One.

Robinson felt set-pieces at both ends made the difference - and thought his side did not offer enough of a threat from corners and free-kicks.

The U's head coach said: “The big disappointment for me is we’ve got beaten on two set-plays.

"Let’s not beat around the bush, we’ve probably had two or three of the best chances of the game.

"It could’ve been different on another day.

"It was two strong teams who stopped each other from doing the positive things.

"Our set-play delivery was abysmal and theirs was outstanding and they scored two goals from it."

The defeat followed one of United's best performances of the season on Tuesday, when they swatted aside fifth-placed Doncaster Rovers 3-0.

It saw Blackpool leapfrog the U's in the congested League One play-off race, where just four points separate fifth and 12th.

Robinson said: "You can’t be that good on Tuesday and that bad on Saturday and think you’re so far off it.

"There’s not a great deal of change in the league.

"We've got to dust ourselves off and pick the players up for Tuesday night (at Northampton Town).”
