KARL Robinson rued Oxford United's inability to build on their bright start at Sky Bet League One leaders Hull City.

The U's matched their high-flying opponents in the first half, with Dan Agyei, Cameron Brannagan and Josh Ruffels all going close.

But Keane Lewis-Potter twice showed the clinical edge United lacked, scoring either side of the break to seal victory.

It was a familiar story for the U's, who have failed to score in six of their last eight games.

They created fewer opportunities after the break and Robinson admitted they failed to make the most of their best spell.

The U's head coach said: “For 60 minutes we were arguably the better team and we have to take our chances.

"When you play against the best teams and you’re the better team you have to score.

"For that first 35 minutes I felt we missed a number of chances, but didn’t ask enough questions in the second half.

"I thought for large parts we dominated the ball and hurt them at key moments, but for the last 30 minutes they deserved to see the game out.”

Robinson only made two of the five substitutions he had available, with Brandon Barker and Matty Taylor replacing Mark Sykes and Elliot Lee.

Sykes was kicked in the chest in the first half and was brought off ten minutes into the second period, while Alex Gorrin, on the bench with a sore groin, did not make it on to the pitch.

Robinson said: "If we were winning with ten minutes to go, he probably had it in his armoury.

"We probably had more substitutes to lock the game out today, so that's why we didn't make any more subs late on."
