OXFORD United were unable to keep their dreams of a double alive as they were beaten 2-0 by Gillingham in the Youth Alliance League Cup.
Josh Chambers and Gerald Sitole scored either side of the break to reach the semi-finals at the expense of the U’s, who won the southwest division title on Saturday.
United found it tough against a more experienced group and went behind after 19 minutes, Chambers beating goalkeeper Kie Plumley.
Gatlin O’Donkor and Tyler Goodrham both went close to an equaliser, but Sitole headed home the second goal after the break.
The group will now divide their time between Under 21 football and regional matches in the second part of the Youth Alliance season.
