OXFORD City have the chance to claim a historic victory in today’s Buildbase FA Trophy quarter-final at Notts County.

David Oldfield’s side travel to Meadow Lane (3pm), aiming to spring a shock against the Vanarama National League high-fliers.

It is the first time City have reached the last eight of the competition in their 139-year history, with a Wembley final two wins away.

David Oldfield: Oxford City must block out uncertainty

But the National League South outfit must get past a side currently fifth in the division above, who were only relegated in 2019 after 131 years in the football league.

City’s last game was the 4-1 win over Chelmsford City on February 13, after their league season was declared null and void last week.

But they are unbeaten since the 1-0 Emirates FA Cup second round defeat at Shrewsbury Town on November 28 – a run of 12 matches – and director Justin Merritt expects them to be full of confidence.

He said: “Sometimes you come off the back of a huge disappointment and rally together.

“They’ve worked really hard and they’re bearing the fruits of it.

“There’s some real talent in there and we don’t feel like we’re at full capacity.”
