Boss Darren Patterson has urged his Oxford United players to show some mental toughness and come away with a win in Tuesday night's FA Trophy replay at Tonbridge.

On a tight ground, and with the pitch likely to be rock-hard, it's an occasion for the U's to show what they are made of - and avoid an embarrassing exit from the competition following Saturday's 0-0 draw at the Kassam Stadium.

The winners of tonight's first-round replay at Longmead Stadium, which has just 200 seats, have been rewarded with a home tie against AFC Wimbledon in the second round on Saturday, January 12.

And with AFC Wimbledon being one of the best supported clubs in non-League football, there's a significant financial incentive in getting through.

The U's will be without first-choice goalkeeper Billy Turley and midfielder Danny Rose, but Tonbridge Angels have been hit too, with midfielder Antony Storey and striker Ray Powell both ruled out through suspension. In addition, four players are cup-tied.

Turley misses the game through suspension after collecting five yellow cards, but he would have missed the match through injury anyway.

Sam Warrell stands by to play in goal, with another youth team keeper, James Foster, also in the squad.

Patterson is looking for a positive response from his players, who came in on Sunday and watched the 'video nasty' of just how poor they had been.

"Their normal rest and relaxation day was cancelled and they came in and worked quite hard," Patterson said.

"They've got a chance to redeem themselves tonight. They're lucky to have that opportunity."

Patterson has added youngsters Alex Fisher, who scored twice for the Under 18s at the weekend in their 3-2 defeat at Cheltenham, and Ben Weedon, who, like Fisher, played in the Puma Youth Alliance fixture because he needed a full game.

But the U's boss would not say what changes there would be to the starting line-up.

"We'll have to see whether people deserve another chance or not. But whatever side we put out they will need to be fully focussed and ready for a battle," he said.

The biggest improvement needs to come up front. United have managed to find the net in only three of their last ten matches.

Patterson said after Saturday's stalemate: "I'm getting fed up with every single opposition we play against having better centre forwards than us."

Tonbridge chairman Nick Sullivan is confident of a four-figure gate.
