OXFORDSHIRE Cricket are aiming to raise £5,000 by walking, running and cycling the length of Great Britain.

Staff, players, directors and volunteers are attempting to cover the 874 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End virtually this month in aid of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and Opening Up, which tackles mental health issues through cricket.

They had yesterday completed more than 700 miles and raised £919.

Each person has set their own target for the challenge and can add to their tally on any day of the week, except Sunday.

Several people involved in the professional game sent messages to participants, including Scotland international and former Cumnor player George Munsey.

Others to lend support include Sussex head coach and former England spinner Ian Salisbury, plus another ex-Cumnor man, Simon Cook, now bowling coach at Kent.

Oxfordshire Cricket said on its fundraising page: “The whole Oxfordshire Cricket community have been touched by the service we have received from the NHS during the pandemic.”
