Abingdon Utd 2 (R Brooks 9, Curtin 70)

Winchester City 0

Abingdon brought a halt to their run of defeats as they posted their first win in five games in Division 1 South & West at Northcourt Road.

o Abingdon showed no signs of nerves on the back of their poor run, and within the first minute, Ryan Curtin saw his curling free-kick tipped around a post by Winchester keeper Clint Davies.

But Davies could do nothing to stop Ryan Brooks from opening the scoring on nine minutes.

A lovely move saw Julian McCalmon step over, allowing James Organ to flick the ball on to Anaclet Od- hiambio.

He squared the ball to Brooks, who side-stepped his marker to fire beyond Davies.

On 15 minutes, Organ's shot fizzed past a post, and while Brooks went close twice in quick succession.

At the other end, Michael Alexis had to be on his toes to hook the ball off the line from a Dave Allen shot.

With half-time looming, Luke Holden was brought down by Davies in the box, but the referee had already awarded a free-kick for an earlier infringement when Holden had his heels tapped on the edge of the area. The resulting free-kick was blasted into the wall.

After the break, Winchester had more of the game, but Abingdon continued to create the better chances.

Davies saved well with his legs from Brooks, before Abingdon scored their second 20 minutes from time.

From a free-kick just outside the area, Curtin curled it around the wall into the bottom corner.

Winchester had Matt Bowler sent off for a second yellow card, and Abingdon nearly got a third with time running out when Odhiambo's effort went wide of the far post.
