KARL Robinson felt Oxford United showed great control in their 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

The U's could have been forgiven for being rusty in their first Sky Bet League One outing for three weeks, but Matty Taylor's double sealed a comfortable victory.

It stretched United's unbeaten run to ten matches in all competitions, while their current six-game winning streak is their longest since 1994.

The hosts overcame a slow start to take the lead through Taylor's opener after the half hour mark, before the same player increased the advantage with 17 minutes left.

Rovers were unable to capitalise on their few chances, but Robinson thought the U's fully deserved the points as they climbed to 11th.

He said: “I thought in the first eight minutes they came out at 100 miles per hour and made it difficult for us.

"After that I thought we were brilliant.

"I thought we were a cut above in our performance levels.

"For the rest of the first half we were a yard away from getting that extra goal and going in a little more comfortably.

"It was very pleasing and I thought we saw the game out well.”

The only sour note of the afternoon was a thigh injury to Marcus McGuane, who was stretchered off after 15 minutes in some pain.

He was replaced by Cameron Brannagan, who continued his return to fitness, but United face a nervous wait to find out the extent of the former Barcelona man's issue.

Robinson said: “He’s walking now, so when he gets a scan we’ll know a little bit more.

"It’s his thigh, he felt it as he kicked the ball.

"It’s a big loss to us but the players dealt with that well.”
