PLYMOUTH Argyle’s shock victory at Sunderland saw Oxford United fall to 14th in Sky Bet League One.
The Pilgrims won 2-1 at the Stadium of Light to claim a first away success of the season and make their 800-mile round trip worth it.
Liverpool loanee Adam Lewis gave Argyle a 1-0 lead at the break on his full debut, before Joe Edwards restored the advantage four minutes after Aiden O’Brien’s second-half equaliser.
Blackpool’s home game against Northampton Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch – 72 hours after United’s trip to The Cobblers was called off for the same reason.
That ensured the U’s did not fall any further, while the gap to the play-offs remains eight points thanks to Charlton Athletic’s 2-1 defeat at Peterborough United.
