OXFORD United must try to forget about the prospect of more postponements due to Covid, says Josh Ruffels.

The U’s were set to host Doncaster Rovers in Sky Bet League One tonight, but the game was postponed last week after five visiting players tested positive.

Meanwhile, United’s win at Plymouth Argyle seven days ago was one of just five League One games to go ahead that day.

With cases continuing to rise and England again placed under tougher restrictions last night, Ruffels is savouring every match.

He said: “It’s strange when you see so many postponements and you worry about your own game being on.

“We’ve just got to enjoy it as much as we can while we’re on the pitch, because you don’t know what’s going to happen in the future.”

In a bid to crack down on transmission of the new strain of the virus, the EFL has tightened distancing rules for clubs at their training grounds.

The precautions aim to minimise time spent indoors and are nearly as strict as when the U’s returned from the first lockdown back in June.

Right back Sam Long said: “We’ve gone straight back to where we started.

“This new strain is worrying everyone and the last thing we want is a full lockdown where we don’t know when football’s coming back.

“We’ve got to take these measures to prevent it spreading as much as it would in a normal environment and keep football running, because it’s important for everyone.”
