THIS week, we have been finding out the impact of Christmas results on Oxford United’s season in recent years.

In 2020, you could argue a productive festive period is more important than ever.

United should turn up at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow refreshed and raring to go after their surprise mid-season break.

Part one: Does a good Christmas equal a successful season for Oxford United?

They face AFC Wimbledon, who will sit back and let the U’s have the ball if their Carabao Cup visit in September is anything to go by.

United then go to Plymouth Argyle, bottom of Sky Bet League One’s form table over the last six games, before travelling to actual basement boys Burton Albion on January 2.

The U’s will have to work hard against sides that will make them earn victory.

But in a season when playing Saturday-Tuesday is the norm, United simply must cash in on their 11 days off.

Part two: Oxford United's Christmas results and the impact on their season

With a potential fixture backlog coming as more matches are called off due to coronavirus, points on the board are worth more than games in hand.

United have improved at both ends of the pitch in recent weeks, with some resilient displays at some of the league’s high-flyers and a clinical dismantling of Northampton Town.

But they remain only one point above the relegation zone and need to move away from trouble sooner rather than later.
