MATTY Taylor insists Oxford United will not lose momentum over their mini Christmas break.

Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers has been postponed due to coronavirus in the home side’s camp, meaning the U’s are not back in action until the visit of AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day.

The 11-day gap between games will be United’s longest of the season so far and follows a brutal schedule of nine matches in 29 days.

While there is frustration that the U’s must wait to back up the 4-0 win over Northampton, Taylor, who scored twice on Tuesday, sees the benefits.

Matty Taylor: Oxford United rediscovered killer instinct against Northampton

The striker said: “There’s been so many games I think the lads will be quite thankful for the break.

“We won’t switch off and we’ll have to have a plan for the next game.

“We’ve had some good form and need to put some wins on the board.”

It is the third time this season United have won a game, only for the next one to be called off due to Covid in the opposition ranks.

The U’s won 4-1 at Accrington Stanley on September 26, but the home clash with Crewe Alexandra a week later was postponed.

The same thing happened when the derby with Swindon Town on October 24 was called off, four days after United beat MK Dons 3-2.

Taylor said: “It seems every time we win the next one’s off.

“You’ve just got to deal with it, adapt and stay focused.

“We’ve been in good form and we’re finally in our stride.

“Fingers crossed we can keep a little run going and shoot up the table.”
