OXFORD United showed a resilience that pleased Karl Robinson in the stalemate at Blackpool.

The hosts had won five of their last six in Sky Bet League One to shoot up the table, but were unable to breach the U's defence.

Blackpool winger CJ Hamilton was unlucky to strike the woodwork in each half, but otherwise the visitors kept their opponents at arm's length.

They even twice came close to securing the points in the closing stages, with Chris Maxwell thwarting Mide Shodipo and then tipping John Mousinho's diving header onto the post.

Robinson felt United fully deserved their point, but admitted three would have been fortunate.

“It would have been a smash and grab," the U's head coach said.

“They have so many good players at the top end of the pitch.

“We had to be a bit different and I thought we looked more solid as the game went on.

"I don’t think we were massively under the cosh, I thought we finished stronger than the opposition."

The 0-0 draw saw United climb out of the relegation zone as they ended the afternoon 19th, while it was their second league clean sheet in three games.

That run has seen them hold high-flying Ipswich Town and Hull City, with Robinson encouraged by his side's grit.

He said: “While we were looking okay going forward and getting criticised for our back four, I kept saying we will get there.

“We seem to have shored that up, but we’ve become less of a potent threat at the top of the pitch.

“At this level you can’t have that perfect balance of that wonderful, attacking free-flowing football but that solid unit as well.

“To have three draws against three high-level teams is not bad.

"I’m not saying it’s good, don’t think I’m accepting a point, but it’s better than what it might have been."
