ABOUT 60 per cent of Oxford United season-ticket holders applied for a seat at the club's next three home games.

United set up a ballot system for the matches against Northampton Town, AFC Wimbledon and Doncaster Rovers and are confident most fans who took part will be able to attend two of the three matches.

The club are now allocating tickets for Tuesday's game against Northampton.

United have asked fans who are given a seat for the Sky Bet League One clash but cannot attend to email ticketoffice@oufc.co.uk so it can go to another supporter.

They will then be added to a waiting list for the other two games.

United have about 4,600 season-ticket holders, but while Oxfordshire remains in tier two of coronavirus restrictions only 2,000 fans can attend each match.

The U's managing director, Niall McWilliams, has confirmed corporate and hospitality tickets are not included in the ballot.

This has caused frustration among supporters and the MD admitted there was no 'perfect solution'.

He said: "We're having to find the best possible answer to an impossible scenario.

"When we analysed all of the different options and spoke to Ticketmaster, we felt this was the best possible option to get as many people as we can into as many games as possible.

"This is a learning curve for us and we didn't know how many season-ticket holders would apply for the ballot."

He added: "People have got a five-day break (in restrictions) and we want them to allow them to plan their Christmas.

"What we're guilty of is perhaps overthinking and trying our best to accommodate as many people people as we can."
