ADAM Smith's goal was in vain as Oxford United were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup in the first round.

The young U's have been in impressive league form, but AFC Wimbledon won 2-1 at Thame United's ASM Stadium.

Eddie Brearey and Josh Anifowose started after being on the bench for the first team 24 hours earlier.

But the former was picking the ball out of his net in the tenth minute, when Obed Yeboah charged the ball down and finished.

Smith, who made his mark in last season's competition, levelled with a header midway through the half.

But the visitors regained the lead six minutes before the break, Julian Sarmiento-Ramirez with a low drive.

Ben Watt came close to an equaliser with a shot which deflected over, but even with six minutes added on United were unable to get back on level terms.

Oxford Utd: Brearey, Watt, Johnson, Masters, Nosakhare, Golding, Smith, Gardner, Crook, Anifowose (Coe 80), Goodrham.
