JACK Stevens will get the chance to push his claims at Oxford United in the next two games.

The 23-year-old impressed in pre-season and has made three appearances this term.

There have been calls from some quarters for him to be given a run in the Sky Bet League One games, with Simon Eastwood enduring a bumpy patch of form.

U’s boss Karl Robinson continues to back his No 1, but intends to play Stevens in the Emirates FA Cup

first-round tie against Peterborough United today, plus Tuesday’s game at Walsall in the Papa John’s Trophy.

He said: “Easty’s looking more and more assured.

“What could he do with the penalty (against Rochdale on Tuesday), or the two goals which went in at Fleetwood?

“There are real positives coming off the back of Charlton and one or two mistakes so far.

“He’s responded really well and it’s for Jack to put the pressure on. That’s the calling card you’re looking for.”

The games are also likely to be an opportunity for Derick Osei to get some minutes.

The striker was omitted from the U’s squad for their league games, but is eligible in the cup matches.
