JOSH Ashby scored a free-kick in either half to ensure Oxford City got their Vanarama National League South campaign off to a winning start.

The midfielder’s double proved the difference as David Oldfield’s side beat Bath City 2-0 at Court Place Farm.

Ashby opened the scoring seven minutes before the break, beating former Oxford United goalkeeper Ryan Clarke with a low effort.

He sealed the points during second-half stoppage time, this time finding the top corner with another superb set-piece.

Elsewhere, Giorgio Rasulo’s double gave Banbury United a brilliant 2-1 victory at Nuneaton Borough in BetVictor Southern League Premier Central.

Ex-England Under 21 striker Leroy Lita put the hosts ahead midway through the first half, but the Puritans midfielder equalised from the penalty spot shortly after the hour mark.

Andy Whing’s side were in the ascendancy and gained a deserved three points when Rasulo bagged his second in the final ten minutes.

In Division 1 Central, Kidlington were 3-0 winners in their Oxfordshire derby at Didcot Town.

Harry Whitehead put the visitors in front before the break, with Callum Harvey and Twariq Yusuf making the points safe after half-time.

Lynton Goss hit a hat-trick as Thame United beat Coleshill Town 4-1, while Ryan Blake scored the other goal.

Meanwhile, Wantage Town were 3-1 winners at home to AFC Dunstable, Kai Mahon on target twice after Jack Alexander netted early on.

North Leigh were beaten 5-0 at Halesowen Town.
