THE transfer market is likely to go up a notch after today’s deadline affecting international deals.

After 11pm, the only business will be domestic – although players cannot move from one Premier League club to another.

With the top-flight sides effectively needing to have their squads complete by tonight, it is thought they will be more willing to allow players to leave.

U’s boss Karl Robinson is still in the market for a left winger, plus cover at left back and centre back.

And after a quiet period for recruitment, there is an expectation the market will pick up between tomorrow and deadline day on October 16.

He said: “You’ll probably see a mass spending spree within the Premier League and then that will knock down to the Championship and so on.

“You’d like to think it will happen early this week and we’ll pick up the bits from there.”

In the wake of United’s postponement against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, they are now playing catch-up on the rest of Sky Bet League One.

It comes in a period where the squad are already playing on five of the next six Tuesdays.

Robinson joked: “I think I’m going to have to sign about 15 players with the fixture pile-up I’m going to have.”
