EDDIE Pepperell claimed his highest finish for a year by with a top-ten result at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open.

The Abingdon golfer ended on seven-under for the tournament at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick for a share of ninth place.

It was his best result since coming joint sixth in Portugal last October.

Pepperell had only completed one tournament since March, but rose to the challenge at an event hit by Storm Alex, which brought wet weather.

A three-under par opening round of 68 put him in a good position to make the cut, which was confirmed with a 70 on Friday.

He followed it up with a level-par 71 in sodden conditions on Saturday, before another 68 in the final round saw him stay among the front runners.

Pepperell finished four shots behind winner Aaron Rai, who beat Tommy Fleetwood on a play-off.

The Frilford Heath member now moves on to the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, which starts on Thursday.
